Fake News: The Alleged Arrests of “NATO Officers” in Syria
IRIS · ir-is.org · December 18, 2016
UPDATE December 28, 2016: From a reader: “surely you’ve seen this by now: Syrian ambassador to UN names intelligence agents and spies. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iJKN9Z8UU94”
Yes, surely we have seen this, thank you for the message though. However, Jaafari doesn’t say those listed were arrested. In the press conference that he attended he indeed mentioned the names as listed below, yet he also said that they were going to capture them and put them on display for the world to witness. As of that particular point in time and even today, no such display has been presented to any of us. By any press outlet, be it alternative or mainstream or anything in between. No such arrests have been made. It is not because that maybe a part of a report is true that the whole report is factual. For now the term fake news concerning the “Voltaire leak” still stands, in that no arrests have been made of the alleged listed individuals. It would likewise be fake news when one claims that 9/11 was indeed an inside job but the buildings did come down due to the burning jet fuel.
For some still unknown reason the alternative media is building up a new fake news campaign that will eventually only lead to the further discrediting of themselves and at their own hands.
Short from currently going fully viral online the alt media’s latest news stunt claims that “NATO Officers” have been arrested by the Syrian Special Forces, which led to “a secret” UN Security Council meeting on December 16, 2016 – ALL OF THIS ALLEGEDLY AND WITHOUT PROVIDING SOURCES OR EVIDENCE.
The stunt goes as far as to claim that these Officers are the ones who were arrested by the Assad regime:
Mutaz Kanoğlu – Turkey
David Scott Winer – USA
David Shlomo Aram – Israel
Muhamad Tamimi – Qatar
Muhamad Ahmad Assabian – Saudi
Abd-el-Menham Fahd al Harij – Saudi
Islam Salam Ezzahran Al Hajlan – Saudi
Ahmed Ben Naoufel Al Darij – Saudi
Muhamad Hassan Al Sabihi – Saudi
Hamad Fahad Al Dousri – Saudi
Amjad Qassem Al Tiraoui – Jordan
Qassem Saad Al Shamry – Saudi
Ayman Qassem Al Thahalbi – Saudi
Mohamed Ech-Chafihi El Idrissi – Moroccan
Unfortunately for the alternative news spinners, only the USA and Turkey are NATO members and only they could have had “NATO Officers” arrested in Syria. The rest of the list are not “Officers” of any NATO member state.
While Sputnik News (Russia) is still waiting eagerly to publish such “breaking” news if it were actually remotely real, PressTV (Iran) will not go any further than to repost a French translation of a 21st Century Wire fabrication – knowing very well that an English version on their website would draw too much attention and would pretty much discredit the Iranian “news” agency even further.
As for the single solid “source” for this entire charade, a photo posted by Voltaire Network of a UN meeting is not considered smoking gun evidence at all.
As an organization IRIS would be one of the first to support the spreading of news regarding such a development, if it were actually real. In the current case, however, we do not wish to be blamed for further feeding the disinformation and thus we have to take a clear stance that although indeed the mainstream press is often caught lying the alternative media should not do the exact same thing – in an effort to gain momentum for any anti-war manifestations – simply by fabricating news stories, or fake news if you will.
Don’t let the press and the governments give the public any reasons why the people should be wary of the “alt press”. Creating false reports will not serve anyone’s causes except the ones that seek the downfall of the information rebellion.
